Easter Blessings

Easter, 1989. Me and my brother at my Grandfather’s

Easter is right around the corner and I want to reflect on the meaning and memories Easter holds for me.  Easter is a time to remember and reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made for you, me, the world.  He gave his own life for our sins.  It also shows the miracles God can do as he raised his Son from death.  Easter is a time for renewals, a fresh beginning.  Spring has sprung, the flowers and trees are budding, baby animals are born, the weather is getting warmer and the days are getting longer.

When I was a kid, my parents would buy me a new spring Easter dress and white dress shoes to wear to church on Easter Sunday.  After church, my family and I would go to brunch with our grandparents, have an Easter egg hunt and see what the Easter bunny brought us in our Easter baskets.  The care and attention to detail my parents did that weekend showed their love for me and my brother.  We made memories and traditions that we will hold for a lifetime and pass down to the next generation.

One Easter, we ate brunch in a hotel and they had an Easter egg hunt for the kids.  My brother and I had fun going all around the hotel collecting eggs and filling our baskets to the brim. Later we found out each kid was only supposed to take one egg each!  The eggs were wooden and dyed in the prettiest pastel blue, pink, green and yellow.  We kept those eggs for decades and laughed each year about the memory of breaking the rules and how much fun we had!

Another year, my family and I headed south and went out of town for Easter weekend.  It was Easter Sunday and there was a knock at the hotel room door.  A lady with a southern accent dressed as the Easter bunny on the other side said loudly, “it’s the Eaaaasster Buuuuunnny!”  I don’t think my parents were aware of what they exactly signed up for when they registered for the children’s activity at the hotel. To this day, every Easter, we say this phrase multiple times and laugh and smile about the memory.

My family and I were able to make these memories because of Jesus’ sacrifice.  The most important thing in life is love because God is love.  Love creates and links families.  We build stronger families with loving memories that we will hold forever.  Each Easter is a time to make new memories and to have a fresh start.  Soon, the first baby, a boy!, of my family’s next generation will be born.  The love continues and grows with him because Jesus loved us so much to die for our sins.  I can’t wait to make memories with my nephew that will last his lifetime.
